So, we’ve all been to some great parties, but we’ve all been to some pretty bad ones too. The dreadful parties that you’re desperate to leave but don’t want to appear rude by bailing out too early. You know the ones!
But, what is the difference between the ‘best night out you’ve had in ages’ and ‘the longest 3 hours of your life’?… Getting your party planning right is crucial, so that’s why we’ve compiled a few hand hints….
1) Communication is key
It’s really important to communicate to your guests exactly what your plans are. It’s not often that people object to any party arrangements, but if it’s ‘bring a bottle’ and they turn up empty handed then it could be embarrassing. Let your guests know about the venue, parking, transport options, dress code and food and drink arrangements. If you’re planning an 80’s themed night, but not with fancy dress, then make sure everyone is aware to ensure that nobody dusts off their leg warmers unnecessarily.
2) Get help!
Planning a party can be a massive task, so make sure you enroll some helpers. Allocate friends and family specific jobs in the run up to the event and on the night too. You need to be able to celebrate in style, so make sure you’re not worrying about restocking the fridge with beers or paying the caterers.
3) Make it unique
It’s your party, so make sure you do it your way. Your bash should reflect your personality and preferences – don’t just do what you think is expected or mirror an event you went to last year. Put your stamp on it and people will appreciate your efforts.
4) Relax and enjoy
It’s your big day or night! If you can’t relax and enjoy yourself then what’s the point? If your guests see you having a great time, then they’ll follow suit. There’s nothing worse than a stressful host putting everyone on edge. It is your party – but please don’t cry even if you want to!
5) Music, Music, Music
When it comes to buying a house it’s all about location, location, location. But… when it comes to a GREAT party it’s undoubtedly about music, music, music. You need to pitch your music choice correctly to ensure that there’s something for everyone. If you’ve invited a mixed age group then don’t alienate anyone. Great Granny won’t want to listen to Little Mix all night.
