Lockdown has posed many challenges for many people, but when you’re young and in love and planning a 2020 wedding, it’s caused total havoc.
One young couple, Holly Leanne Pitts & Joe McNab, who sadly had to cancel their wedding plans due to COVID-19 were surprised by the efforts of friends and neighbours on 25th May 2020 when they threw a surprise ‘would have been’ wedding socially distanced street party.
It’s always handy when Andy Wilsher Sings, a professional wedding singer with over 25 years’ experience, is one of your neighbours and even more helpful that his manager used to be a florist!
Andy performed outside his home, supported by fellow neighbours of the engaged couple to create a ‘would have been’ wedding day celebration that the couple wouldn’t forget.
Andy performed his Motown and 60s soul tribute for the couple and all the neighbours and even sang Al Green’s – Let’s Stay Together for their first dance where Holly & Joe shared their dance with their little boy Edward, age 4.
The beautiful weather helped proceedings, as did the many thoughtful touches such as a wedding cake, professionally arranged flowers, balloons, bunting and more. All the neighbours dusted off their best attire too and wore wedding-appropriate outfits to add some extra glam to the day.
A fancy-dress vicar performed the nuptials and with the whole street at the party, there was no need to leave the road clear for cars, enabling socially distanced partying at its best.
Andy and his manager Jackie donated their time and efforts to arrange this incredible surprise with many willing helpers. Andy said: “The atmosphere was amazing! Everyone was determined to give Holly and Joe a special day even though it wasn’t the day they planned. I’ve performed at hundreds of weddings, but this ‘would have been’ wedding will be one that I’ll always remember.”
